RETIREMENT CELEBRATION FOR
JUSTICE JAMES E. C. PERRY

The Judicial Community from all over the State came together on April 13th in Orlando to celebrate the distinguished career and retirement of Justice James E.C. Perry

Justice Perry’s Retirement Dinner held on April 13 in Orlando, was a resounding success. Justice Perry and his family were very pleased with, and thanked the Society for hosting the event . Twenty-two other voluntary Bar Associations joined the Society in showing their support for Justice Perry. The long list of Bar Associations on the attached program demonstrates the broad scope of Justice Perry’s positive impact and exemplifies the tremendous diversity that exists in the Central Florida legal community.

Thanks to our Trustees who served on the dinner subcommittee, Rene Thompson, Scott Rost, Susan Rosenblatt and Mary Adkins, and thanks to those who sponsored the event. The sponsoring firms and individuals are listed below.

Our Executive Director, Mark Miller and his team were a key component to the evening’s success. Mark coordinated closely with Justice Perry’s daughter, Kamilah Perry, to include several personal touches that made the evening a memorable one. The evening started with a very entertaining drumline from Young Blacks in Action, Inc., a group that develops the artistic talents of Orlando’s youth.

Justice Perry’s favorite national recording artist, Wintley Phipps was also there to sing several inspiring songs, including Justice Perry’s favorite song. Mr. Wintley thanked Justice Perry for serving as an inspiration and role model to his own son who is currently in law school. Many others who spoke that evening echoed a similar theme.

Justice Perry ended the evening by thanking his family, friends and colleagues who had helped him to remain true to himself and to make a difference in the lives of many. As one of Justice Perry’s favorite sayings goes, if you see a turtle on a fencepost you know he did not get there by itself.

I encourage you to view the dinner program online. The Society is pleased to have had the opportunity to host the dinner program and preserve it for many generations to come.
